I live in a small community so my Shabbat practice varies…
On Friday morning I start a loaf of bread, tidy the house and shop for the weekend. at 3pm local time I join the livestream of the Shabbat Service from Central Synagogue in NY. I shower, dress for Shabbat, and usually eat before Shabbat begins.
If we have a Kabbalat Shabbat service I go, we light candles, do kiddush and hamotzi there along with lots of singing, praying, learning and schmoozing.
If there is no service I wear my Shabbat pajamas (they are special!) and light candles at home, say kiddush and hamotzi before snuggling into my big chair to watch a Jewish film or read a Jewish novel perhaps.
On Saturday if there is a Torah Service I go. If not I study at home. Afternoon is usually a nap and a phone call to my parents. More reading is very likely.
I avoid work, email, social media and non-family phone calls for the duration. After havdalah I resume the ordinary.
