How do you understand the word “Wisdom”? Do you consider yourself or anyone you know to be “wise”, and what are the qualifications to become wise?
a life well-lived, I think. How about you?
In Pirkei Avos it says: eizehu chacham? halomed mikol adam- who is the wise one? the one who learns from everyone.
There is something that we can learn from each person. One who is wiling and has the humility to learn something from everyone is truly wise.
To me, “wise” feels like it has the connotation of seeing beyond the surface level of things. It’s different than just “smart.”
Yeah, maybe that’s why, like @SaraW said, our Sages say that someone is wise when he’s open to learning from everyone. Because he can see beyond the surface and knows that EVERYONE has something to offer his understanding, no matter who they are.
